One of the areas in which we have expanded our workforce development is in the hospitality industry. We not only run regular training programs to help individuals begin a new career, but we also help them find those careers.
This year we are proud to be working with the LINE hotel in DC where they will be opening a new hotel in the heart of Adams Morgan early 2017. The program we instituted for this particular client enrolled 55 DC residents of which 50 successfully graduated. The program ran for 3 weeks at a time and featured a tour of the LINE facility along with sessions with LINE staff. Our students also go through mock interviews, receive career coaching & support, and industry-recognized credentials.
In the end, these students progressed from being novices in hospitality to having the skills and knowledge necessary to present themselves as qualified candidates.
“The general consensus from the hotel’s department managers that interviewed the Goodwill hospitality graduates was that the students were professional, had excellent knowledge of hotels and guest service, and all interviewed very well. Of course, some students stood out more than others, but generally speaking, they all had great skills and are definitely capable of being employed in the hospitality industry,” says Stephanie Saik, Director of Human Resources for LINE DC.
We proudly share that ten of our graduates have been hired by the LINE Hotel. On top of that six more have been given offers to start working closer to the LINE hotel opening date. These associates will be working as housekeepers, public area attendants, security personnel, and in the reservations department.
Though this particular training session has ended we continue to provide opportunities for individuals to join the ever expanding hospitality industry. Our next training session is scheduled to begin on July 6th at our Goodwill Career Center in Arlington. If you know of anyone who might be interested please share this information with them.
