It is said an organization is only as strong as the people within it. Goodwill of Greater Washington is a perfect example of just how legitimate this statement is.

Every spring our organization gathers together for our annual Celebration of R.I.S.E. The occasion gives us the opportunity to lift up those who exemplify our core values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. This year’s four winners have proven themselves time and time again as the embodiment of the characteristics we truly believe contribute to a steadfast organization.

Let’s learn a little more about the 2016 R.I.S.E Award Winners:

2017 Goodwill of Greater Washington RISE winner for Respect Christina Damhuis: Blonde woman in a red dress holding an award, with Catherine Meloy, Goodwill of Greater Washington CEO: woman in a black and white patterned dress, blonde, and Michael Frohm, Goodwill of Greater Washington COO, man in a business suit with a blue tie, bald with glasses

Respect: Christina Damhuis, Lead RISE Career Coach

For seven years Christina has selflessly given her time and energy to hundreds of Goodwill associates and students. You would be hard pressed to find an individual with a more kind and genuine personality. Christina lifts everyone she comes in contact with up to their fullest potential.

2017 Goodwill of Greater Washington RISE winner for Integrity Talby Afable: Man in a blue shirt and yellow tie holding an award, with Catherine Meloy, Goodwill of Greater Washington CEO: woman in a black and white patterned dress, blonde, and Michael Frohm, Goodwill of Greater Washington COO, man in a business suit with a blue tie, bald with glasses

Integrity: Talby Afable, Employee Relations Specialist

It is hard to believe Talby has been with our organization for only three years from the profound effect he has had on all of our associates. His demeanor emanates kindness, humor, and fairness as he travels around to our retail locations making sure our associates are given the care and attention they deserve.

2017 Goodwill of Greater Washington RISE winner for Service Mike Brooks: Man in a blue polo with the Goodwill Excel Center Logo on it holding an award, with Catherine Meloy, Goodwill of Greater Washington CEO: woman in a black and white patterned dress, blonde, and Michael Frohm, Goodwill of Greater Washington COO, man in a business suit with a blue tie, bald with glasses

Service: Michael Brooks, Goodwill Excel Center Custodian

Someone once told me “there is no such thing as ‘that’s not my job'”. This is the very first thought that comes to mind when we think of Mike. It is hard to articulate the level of service he provides to all those who walk through the doors of the Excel Center. His thorough approach to his own position is only matched by his willingness take the time to assist those around him with anything they may need.

2017 Goodwill of Greater Washington RISE winner for Excellence: Kiri Grant: man in a blue blazer, black rimmed glasses holding an award, with Catherine Meloy, Goodwill of Greater Washington CEO: woman in a black and white patterned dress, blonde, and Michael Frohm, Goodwill of Greater Washington COO, man in a business suit with a blue tie, bald with glasses

Excellence: Kiri Grant, Glebe Road Retail Store and Donation Center General Manager

Since 2012 Kiri has been making deep impact in our retail division. He began by taking the reins at a struggling Fairfax store, lead the charge when we opened up the Annandale Plaza location, and now oversees the tremendous operation that is Glebe Road. He has a passion and a competitive nature that drives him forward and he accepts nothing less than the very best in everything he does.

These four individuals have helped Goodwill of Greater Washington R.I.S.E to where it is today. They, along with all of our amazing associates, are the strong individuals who collectively uphold our organization. We could not do it without them.
