On February 26th the Goodwill Excel Center Adult Charter High School officially began enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year.

Goodwill Excel Center Enroll NowGoodwill Excel Center is Washington, D.C.’s first adult charter high school to award a high school diploma and industry recognized credentials rather than a GED.

Modeled after the highly successful Excel Center in Indianapolis, IN, the DC school will offer a high-quality, tuition-free adult education for residents of the District of Columbia.

Students will receive the resources and support needed to earn a high school diploma and post-secondary education while developing career paths that present greater employment and career growth opportunities.

Today, there are more than 60,000 adult DC residents who lack a high school diploma.  With the growing need for enhanced academic credentials in order to secure sustainable employment in today’s modern world, a high school diploma has become all but mandatory.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, a high school graduate is 72% more likely to be employed than a high school drop out.

Goodwill Excel Center $10k AdvantageIn 2014, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, high school graduates earned almost $10,000 more per year than those without a diploma.  To put that in context, $10,000 can feed a family of four for up to a year; pay a year’s rent for many; clothe a family of 5 or more for a year; even cover much of the cost of childcare for a year.  In other words – $10,000 is impactful!

To help ensure that students succeed, Goodwill Excel Center will provide a free, on-site drop-in child development center, transportation assistance, and life coaching and job training.  All this will be provided while emphasizing a school-work-life balance through flexible scheduling, extended hours and year-round terms.  The goal of the school is to eliminate as many barriers to success as possible.

Goodwill Excel Center will be open mornings and evenings, and classes can be scheduled to fit each student’s situation.  Terms are 8 weeks long with classes designed to accelerate credit attainment.  Students will learn at their own pace and complete educational requirements throughout the year.

Goodwill Excel Center will be located at 1776 G Street, NW, Washington, DC and is scheduled to begin classes on August 22nd.
(*1776 G St. offices closed until June 2016. We are temporarily located at: Goodwill Headquarters).
