With #GivingTuesday coming up on November 29th we thought we’d put together a playlist to help put you in the proper frame of mind.
Here’s what we have so far: Tuesday Afternoon by the Moody Blues (YouTube), Ruby Tuesday by the Rolling Stones (YouTube), anything by the band Till Tuesday… and that’s pretty much how far I got. It seems Tuesday – as a concept – is not exactly fertile ground for songwriters.
Tuesday is a great time to think about giving to your local community. If you have been thinking of making a donation to Goodwill, take a moment to read our most current success story. It highlights Dakota and Jason, husband and wife, who graduated from our security training program and just recently bought a house [read their story].
We hope their story just might be compelling enough for you to make a gift on Tuesday, November 29th – it would be an excellent day to do it! Since 2013 #GivingTuesday campaigns have raised $28,362 towards our mission.
In addition to giving a financial gift, here are other ways you can support Goodwill:
- Shop: Every dollar we earn 91 cents goes towards mission fulfillment.
Find a Retail Store
- Donate: Help divert millions of pounds of items from ending up in local landfills all while helping your neighbor find employment.
Find a Donation Center
- Volunteer: Maybe your company is looking for a non-profit to support during the holidays. Many groups have helped by donating their time participating in activities ranging from sorting donations to giving mock interviews to our students.

- Social Media: Use the power of your voice to make a difference. Then, you can use the magic of social media to amplify your message. Think of it as a day when we gather together as one community to focus our energy on making us stronger, better, and more cohesive. Be sure to use #GivingTuesday and @dcgoodwill when you Tweet, Share on Facebook, or Share on Instagram.
By Tuesday, November 29th, you will have survived Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesday is a great way to experience the true meaning of the holiday season.
So, whatever your plans are we invite you to put a reminder in your Outlook calendar for Tuesday, November 29th. Mark it #GivingTuesday. Send it to your friends. Working together we can make a difference in our community.
In the meantime, we’d love to hear your suggestions for the playlist. Maybe you’ll have better luck with the Tuesday theme than we did. Feel free to enter them in the contents below.
