Fresh off the heels of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday shopping comes another day that has fast become a post-Thanksgiving tradition: #GivingTuesday.
Now in its seventh year, #GivingTuesday encourages people to give back during the holidays by volunteering and donating to nonprofits making an impact in their local community.
On Tuesday, Nov. 27, Goodwill of Greater Washington will participate in this year’s #GivingTuesday campaign and we invite you to join us. Together, we can support mission programs that serve 2,000 people with disabilities and disadvantages across our region each year.
Goodwill invests an average of $5,500 in each student who enrolls in our job-training programs. Thanks to generous support from community partners, Goodwill can offer that training at no cost to participants.
This year, Goodwill broadened our reach and impact by:
- Launching a new Healthcare training program preparing people for careers in this high-demand industry.
- Graduating 91 students from the Goodwill Excel Center, the first diploma-granting charter high school in the District of Columbia focused on adults.
- Creating 30 permanent jobs by opening our 20th retail store, located in Manassas, VA.
On #GivingTuesday, you can stand with Goodwill to finish 2018 strong and start 2019 ready to do more. You can help meet increased demand for training programs in Prince George’s County and open a new headquarters at Uline Arena in the District with more space and greater accessibility via public transit to serve our community.
When you give to Goodwill, you change the lives of entire families. The training and support people receive at Goodwill not only allows them to start new careers, but also build a better future for their loved ones.
So as you celebrate the season with family and friends, we hope you will remember the individuals and families served by Goodwill. Please make your gift today and join us to transforms lives this holiday.
