2018 promises to be busy at Goodwill of Greater Washington!

We have several major initiatives in the works and wanted to share some of them with you as the New Year approaches.

From a mission standpoint, we will be graduating two more classes from The Goodwill Excel Center adult public charter school.  Our first graduating class was in August of 2017, so we’re excited to see that the model has proven sustainable and more students are creating a better future for themselves and their families by completing their secondary education.

We will also be piloting a new job training program in the healthcare sector.  Healthcare is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and this program will open up a whole new world of career options for program graduates.

Goodwill just launched a new automated email and text messaging system to help minimize attrition at our training program information sessions while improving enrollment in our job training programs.  The new system allows us to send automated email reminders and text messages to anyone who signs up for one of our information sessions.  We believe the improved frequency of communications will help keep applicants focused on attending the meetings and ultimately enrolling in our programs in 2018.

On the retail side, we will be opening our 20th store.  The new location is just off Liberia Avenue in Manassas, VA and will be our first “build to suit”, which means we’re designing and building the store from the ground up rather than retro-fitting an existing space.  We hope to open the new store and donation center by early spring.  Follow Goodwill of Greater Washington on Facebook for the latest updates.

These are just a few highlights, but we’ve got lots more planned in the New Year.  We hope you’ll continue to read our blog, follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and support the work Goodwill is doing in our local community.

From all of us at Goodwill of Greater Washington – Happy New Year!
