Year End Donation Receipts Can Now be Managed on Smartphone and confirmed for IRS Via Geo-fencing Technology
Washington, DC – Goodwill of Greater Washington (Goodwill) recently launched its updated mobile app which includes an improved mobile shopping feature and a first of its kind mobile donation receipt management tool.
Through the donation management tool anyone who donates household goods to Goodwill can now create their own donation receipt and manage their donation portfolio on their smartphone. The feature itemizes donations and calculates the estimated resale value of each item being donated for tax purposes. Additionally, through the use of geo-fencing technology each Goodwill visit is confirmed as soon as the donor drives through a geo-fenced Goodwill donation center and enters a simple 3 digit verification code. Therefore, Goodwill of Greater Washington app users will no longer need to save and keep track of every paper donation receipt that they traditionally receive when making a donation. All of the data is now entered and managed online by the donor; can be edited at the donor’s convenience; and every confirmed receipt is IRS compliant.
If a donor needs to present their receipts to the IRS, they only need to email the receipts to themselves right from the app and print them out. Their receipts remain in their online donor profile until they choose to delete them.
The use of geo-fencing technology makes this mobile donation management feature the first of its kind in the world.
In addition to the new feature the app allows Goodwill customers to shop in Goodwill’s dramatically expanded ecommerce store. Just be clicking on the “shop” icon on the app, the user can shop for a variety of unique items including books, musical instruments, art, fashion and more!
App users can also learn more about Goodwill’s free job training programs and services, join its retail customer loyalty program or find the nearest store or donation center.
