AARP SELECTS GOODWILL AS TAX PREPARATION SITE

WASHINGTON – AARP has once again selected Goodwill of Greater Washington's headquarters as one of 81 metropolitan area sites to help prepare Federal and District tax returns for senior citizens 55 years or older and those with disabilities.

Goodwill headquarters are located at 2200 South Dakota Avenue in Northeast Washington .  This free service will be held from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM every Thursday, beginning Feb. 9 through April 13.  A limited number of one-hour appointments are available and can be made by calling (202) 715-2625.

Here's what seniors are required to bring to their appointments:

  • All tax booklets they received in the mail;
  • W2s and other proof of income;
  • Proof of deductions (if applicable);
  • Copies of last year's Federal and District tax returns.

This is the 37th year that AARP has sponsored its Tax Counseling for the Elderly program.  All tax volunteers are trained, tested and certified to complete Federal and District tax returns.  They are not, however, trained to prepare complex tax forms such as those dealing with rental properties (Schedule E), partnerships (Schedule K-1), and self-employment (Schedule C).

Other AARP tax preparation sites within the metropolitan area can be found online at http://www.aarp.org/taxaide
