Goodwill® of Greater Washington and Northern Virginia Community College Launch Co-enrollment Security Training Program
Goodwill® of Greater Washington (GGW) and Northern Virginia Community College are combining forces to launch a co-enrollment training program designed to build better pathways to jobs, self-sufficiency, and family sustaining wages for low income individuals in Northern Virginia.
The joint initiative, which is scheduled to begin on October 19, 2011, will facilitate targeted learning opportunities to prepare unemployed and underemployed participants for entry level positions in the field of unarmed security and protective services. Students who successfully complete the training objectives will exit the course with work ready skills and five college credits.

Goodwill & the HSC Foundation Partner Up For Youth & Veterans with Disabilities
Goodwill of Greater Washington is partnering with the HSC Foundation to provide services to young people and returning veterans with disabilities and their families at the new National Youth Transitions Center (NYTC) scheduled to open this month.
The 28,000 square foot facility, located at 2013 H Street, NW, Washington, DC will be a place where young people and returning veterans, organizations, businesses, academia, policymakers, advocates and families can access and share resources related to disability and transition.
Participants will have access to critical services, political leaders will visit the facility to learn about transition needs, and organizations across various industries will collaborate to create a national, centralized community of transition resources and research, public policy dialogues and best practices.
The HSC Foundation is dedicated to improving access to services for individuals who face social and health care barriers due to disability and chronic illness. Health Services for Children with Special Needs, Inc., The HSC Pediatric Center, HSC Home Care, LLC and Special Needs Consulting Services are subsidiary organizations of the Foundation.

Goodwill Supports National Disability Awareness Month
Goodwill Industries® is proud to support National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This year’s NDEAM theme is, “Profit by Investing in Workers with Disabilities.” For decades, Goodwill® agencies have trained and hired people with disabilities to work in Goodwill stores, donation centers, and career centers, in addition to emerging fields outside of Goodwill, including healthcare, green industries, and financial services. Furthermore, Goodwill provided employment training and job services to more than 240,000 individuals with disabilities last year. Read more...
