A Mission Moment
Patricia's Optimism Leads to Employment
Before Patricia came to Goodwill she was unemployed for one year and was receiving food stamps from the government. One day her husband came across Goodwill’s flyer for the Green Pathway Construction program and encouraged her to apply.
Patricia didn’t know if the training would lead to a job, but she was open and willing to learn. Soon after graduating from the program Goodwill was so impressed with Patricia that we offered her a job as a retail team leader at one of our stores.
She is known as one of our most enthusiastic associates and is always willing to share the Goodwill mission with others. view video.

"I’ve learned that under everyone’s hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved."
-Andy Rooney
Andy Rooney had such a gift for saying so much with so few words…and this quote comes alive each day someone walks into our Goodwill and needs our help and support. Most times the faces are sad, the spirits are down trodden and the “shell” is hard. And yet, each person who we are honored to serve has one thing in common…they need to feel appreciated and loved. The team at Goodwill of Greater Washington thank you for giving us support financially and through your donations and by volunteering. You help create an environment where “shells” can be softened and people know that they are personally appreciated and have Goodwill to support them in their daily lives.
