Last month, Goodwill of Greater Washington graduated almost 70 students from its diverse job training programs. Some will come to work for Goodwill, while others will develop their careers with other organizations and businesses throughout the greater Washington, DC area.

Hospitality: 8 graduates
Banking: 14 graduates
Environmental Service: 12 graduates
Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Training: 27 graduates
Women’s Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Training: 8 graduates

Goodwill to Help Educate Public on Transition from Analog to Digital TV
(If you still use TV antennas, you should read this story)

Rockville, MD — Goodwill has joined a diverse coalition of private industry, trade associations, civil rights organizations and community groups that will work together on a comprehensive consumer education campaign to increase awareness of the transition from analog to digital television in the United States, expected to be complete on February 17, 2009.

The mission of the DTV Transition Coalition is to ensure no consumer is left without free broadcast television due to a lack of information about the transition. Nearly 20 million households that rely solely on over-the-air television signals will be affected by the end of analog broadcasting. Millions more households that receive over-the-air signals on secondary TV sets will also be affected. (Read More)

The Fashion of Goodwill Runway Show Goes Global and Partners with International Fashion Designer Tu-Anh!

How’d you like to watch a fashion show featuring outfits YOU may have actually worn?!!

The Annual Fashion of Goodwill Runway Show & Gala is going global via the world wide web! Who would have thought a local non-profit agency could have this kind of reach on the global fashion scene?!

For three years, Goodwill of Greater Washington has been hosting the most unique fashion show in the nation’s capital showcasing the vintage and contemporary fashions available at Goodwill Retail Stores. This year, The Fashion of Goodwill Virtual Runway Show and Online Auction will be webcast across the globe on the non-profit agency’s website, www.dcgoodwill.org, on Friday, September 28th. A podcast of the fashion show will also be made available to visitors in addition to a posting on YouTube.com®. (Read More)

Goodwill Launches its First Fashion Blog!

On July 2nd, Goodwill of Greater Washington officially launched its first fashion blog (www.dcgoodwillfashions.blogspot.com).

As an authority on inexpensive yet quality fashions, Goodwill of Greater Washington’s blog will share detailed knowledge and insight on vintage and contemporary clothing and accessories that are valuable to fashion shoppers. The goal will be to educate consumers about our retail operations as well as how their purchases help Goodwill provide job training and employment services to people with disadvantages and disabilities.

Are you a night owl? Do you like good merchandise at great prices? Then the Goodwill Goodnight Sale is the place for you! On Tuesday, July 24th, four of our Goodwill of Greater Washington Retail Stores will open at 4pm and stay open until 11pm. Even better – all DONATED merchandise will be half off (this excludes items purchased as overstock from other retailers).
