A Goodwill Success Story

Tanya Willis joined Goodwill of Greater Washington in August 1999. Prior to joining Goodwill, Willis was having a difficult time finding a job and consequently a place to live. A friend suggested she ask Goodwill for help. She immediately began working for Goodwill in the plant area as a processor responsible for processing the thousands of items donated to Goodwill on a weekly basis.

When Goodwill decided to restructure its retail business to return it to profitability, it had to close some stores and the plant where Willis worked. Goodwill managed to transfer Willis to Bolling Air Force Base where she performs janitorial work. This new position was a pay increase for Willis. “Thanks to Goodwill, now I can afford a place to live,” Willis said. “Goodwill helped me get on my feet.” Your support can help more people like Tanya improve the quality of life for themselves and their families. Providing someone suffering from disadvantages or disabilities with an honorable profession, the hope for a better life and the dignity that comes from work is only a click away.

Dear Supporter,

"One must desire something to be alive!"

-- Margaret Deland

All of us desire something different in life. Some of us desire more time off, a bigger home, perhaps a World Series for the Nationals or a Super Bowl for the Redskins. But the people that come through our doors here at Goodwill all have one common desire: A job. They just want the dignity that comes from making it on their own; the pride that comes from providing for themselves and their families. With your continued support, this is a desire that we can all fulfill. Thank you!

The Fashion of Goodwill, 2nd Annual Runway Show & Gala

The second week of September may be “Fashion Week” in New York City, but here in the nation's capitol, we're building on our own new trend in fashion! Goodwill of Greater Washington announces its second annual fashion show and gala, appropriately titled The Fashion of Goodwill, 2nd Annual Runway Show & Gala. The black tie affair will be held at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center on September 9, 2006.

The Fashion of Goodwill is an entertaining and unique celebration of the mission of Goodwill of Greater Washington through a classic presentation of one of Goodwill's most high profile lines of business: Clothing and fashion!

The evening will feature a fast paced and distinctive runway show, highlighting the quality apparel available at Goodwill Retail Stores. In addition to this exclusive program, the evening will be filled with live music, a unique silent auction featuring amazing vacations, rare antiquities and memorabilia.

After the cocktail reception, unsurpassed four course dinner and one-of-a-kind fashion show, guests will retire to the main ballroom inside the International Trade Center for a Saturday night filled with smiles, laughter and dancing to the fantastic sounds of live entertainment featuring Nightsong!

For the second year in a row, Deloitte will be the gala's presenting sponsor, with additional support from Capitol File Magazine, Sage Communications, Absolute Printing and others!

Managing Our Time

Typically, articles on time management focus on ways to organize, prioritize and schedule the hours in our day. While that approach has value, at least as important is our attitude toward time. Consider some mental attitudes that may reduce our stress related to feeling rushed; not having enough time; and wasting time... more
