Green Pathway DC (Formerly Pre-Apprenticeship Readiness Training Program, P.A.R.T)
Goodwill of Greater Washington, in cooperation with the Green Builders Council of D.C., administers a 10-week job training program in the field of sustainable building. The carbon neutral project will train out of work and underemployed District residents in a high-growth /demand field, create a local workforce more capable of building energy efficient and environmentally sustainable buildings, homes, and neighborhoods, and provide a proven pathway to green jobs in the District. The program will include three weeks of employability skills training, five weeks of pre-apprenticeship green construction instruction through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum, and 2-week training elective options in weatherization, green advantage or smart meter installation. (Note: electives vary each class cycle)
Training Program is supported by the United Planning Organization, District of Columbia Department of Employment Services and ARRA Funds

Green Pathway DC Program Admissions Criteria
Selection will be based on applicant's ability to successfully fulfill the following qualifications:
- Social Security Number (SS Card, Pay stub, Letter from SS agency, Govt I.D. Card)
- DC Residency (Driver's License, Utility Bill, Rent Receipts, Voter Reg., School ID, Rental/Lease Agreement, Written Statement from Shelter on Shelter's Original Letterhead)
- Date of Birth -Must be 18 years or older (Birth Certificate, Govt. ID, Report of Separation, Passport, School Records, Driver's License)
- US Citizenship (Birth Certificate, Passport, Voter Registration, INS Papers, Foreign Passport Stamped eligible to work, Naturalization Certificate)
- Confirmation of Selective Service Registration - Mandatory for males born on or after 1/1/60- Selective Service Card or Document (http://www.sss.gov)
- Employment Status - (Lay off notice, Termination Letter, WARN notice)
- Public Assistance - (TANF, Food Stamp, Refugee, General)
- Family Size/Dependents - if applicable- (Dependent's birth certificate, public assistance of social service records, divorce decree)
- Family Income (current pay stub, W-2 form, Public Assistance Records, Social Service Agency Records, Letter of Earnings from employer, UI Documents, Social Security Benefits)
- Education Status - Highest grade completed (H.S. Diploma, GED, College Degree, School Transcript with school seal, Letter on School District letterhead)
- Military Status (Report of Separation DD-214)
- DC Police Clearance (must be dated within 60-days prior to start of class)
Must be able to:
- Complete a 10-week course; 8 am to 2 pm, Monday - Friday
- Must complete CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems) math and reading assessment with a minimum 6 th grade score
- Access reliable transportation to come to training
- Must be drug free and pass a drug screening
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to work in confined (small) spaces
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry 50 pounds
Training Summary
Occupational Skills Instruction
- Pre-Apprenticeship NCCER Core Curriculum Instruction- Certified and accredited NCCER instructors teach the following modules: Basic Safety, Introduction to Hand Tools, Introduction to Power Tools, Introduction to Blueprint Reading, Basic Rigging, CPR/First Aid, OSHA 10 hour safety certification, and Your Role in the Green Environment
- Math Skills Instruction- Students learn and review basic mathematical functions (adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying whole numbers, fractions, and decimal-fraction conversions, the metric system, and basic algebra and geometry) and learn how to apply these skills to the construction trade.
- Site visits- Students gain hands-on skills and experience the activity and culture of the construction work environment when they visit construction sites with partners such as Miller & Long and Clark Construction.
- Green Elective- Students in each cycle will be given the option to take 2-week electives in the following areas: Weatherization, Smart-Meter Installation, and Green Advantage Training. (Note: electives vary each class cycle)
Employability Skills Instruction
- Students participate in class discussions that focus on conflict resolution, anger management, critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication, etc.
- Students learn how to set goals, common interview questions, job search techniques, resume writing, how to present themselves professionally, and how to develop resumes geared toward a career in construction.
- Students participate in financial management workshops to help them better understand how to improve their financial well-being.
Career Counseling, Mentoring, and Supportive Services
- Employment Coaching- Students meet one-on-one with staff to create an Individual Development Plan that addresses employment goals and objectives and supportive service needs/referrals.
- Mentoring - All female students receive mentoring from NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction)
Job Placement Assistance and Employer Networking
- Students meet with various construction companies at private caeer fair.
- Students receive job referrals and an honest reference from trainers.
